Put the date in your diary: Sunday July 27 is the day that the Perranwell Community Store will open for business in its old premises at the heart of the village.
After more than 18 months trading in a converted container in the village hall car park, the shop is returning to its bricks-and-mortar home.
Final preparations, including the installation of shelving and an alarm system, are taking place in the coming weeks before our reopening.
This means the current shop will be closed from Thursday July 24 to Saturday July 26 as we transfer stock and prepare the store.
David Podd, chairman of the stores committee, said: “We are overjoyed that we have reached this point – far sooner than we had dared to hope when we set out on this adventure. This has been made possible by the dedication of all our volunteers, the support of our shareholders and the generosity of the new owner of the shop building. Perranwell Station can be very proud and we look forward to this exciting new chapter.”
The new shop will have everything that we stocked in the temporary one, including our very popular range of cakes and a new coffee machine. It will also continue our commitment to quality local suppliers. Opening hours will remain the same.
The store will still depend on the hard work of our wonderful volunteers, now overseen by our newly-appointed Store Standards Manager, Perranwell resident Graeme McCallum.
“And of course it will still also depend on residents using it as much as they can,” added David. “We hope this new start will see even more locals choosing to shop with us. It is really essential if we are going to keep this venture viable well into the future.”
Once we have settled in, we will be hosting a grand launch event for key stakeholders, shareholders and the press later in the summer – details to follow.
Wonderful news for Perranwell Station. Well done to all those who got involved in the shop's magnificent refurbishment.
